Cyprus with its mountainous landscapes, cobbly paths,
uneven pavements planted with trees does not immediately
sound like a wheelchair friendly holiday destination.
However there are several organisations, companies and
people who specialise in holidays for the disabled,
renting equipment,

A key person
and ambassador for wheelchair owners and Cyprus lovers
is Chris Neophytou. Being confined to a wheelchair since
his late 20's, he has turned his disability to good use,
creating the first holiday complex specially designed
for those in wheelchairs and their carers:
C and A (Eva's) apartments in Polis Chrysochou. |
 |
| providing
airport transfers and excursions in specially adapted
transfer vehicles, disabled friendly accommodation and
whatever care you may need during your holiday in Cyprus. |
Polis
Chrysochou is a lovely town on the North-West coast
of Cyprus, close to the Akamas Peninsula and the harbour
village Latchi.
Polis has relatively good pedestrian areas and there is
little traffic, so it's safe to use the road wherever
the pavement is not suitable for wheelchairs. Many public
buildings, like the archaeological museum and some restaurants
have adapted access for disabled visitors. |

Chris has been vigorously campaigning for a special
wheelchair access ramp to be constructed at the CTO
camp site in Polis, which was installed in May 2004.
Currently (2005) a pedestrian / bicycle path is under
construction which connects Polis Chrysochou with Latchi.
|
 |
| NOTE: All
facilities are available from April - October. During
the winter months the wheelchair access ramp is removed
to prevent is from being damaged. |
