Contemplating the meaning of life or
attempting to break a record, whatever your ideas are
about sportfishing, Cyprus facilitates them. A long tradition
in fishing, 23 dams that provide excellent fresh water
fishing, over 80 different salt water fish species in
the surrounding Mediterranean Sea and a well organised
fishing department makes Cyprus a sport fisher's paradise.
FRESH WATER FISHING - fishing in dams
Many dams are open all year round. In the Cyprus fresh waters
you will find some 17 different species like Largemouth Bass,
Rainbow Trout, Carp, Tench, Catfish, Silver Bream, Pike, Zander,
Tilapia and Roach, depending on the dam. The list of dams
on the dams in Cyprus page shows
the most common types of fish in each dam.
SALT WATER FISHING
Fishing boats can be found at various fishing shelters and
stations. See the salt
water fishing page for the details. No licence is needed
for angling in the sea, for trolling or for spear fishing
without diving equipment, though there are some restricted
areas for spear fishing and for fishing from boats.
Licences are necessary for spear fishing with aqualungs, for
fishing with nets and long-lines, for fishing at night with
spear guns and any (other) kind of commercial fishing.
There are a number of companies organising day trips. Click
